The Spiritual Nature of Christ's Second Coming: A Call for Faith Beyond Evidence

In this world, many are in search of proof and tangible evidence when it comes to matters of faith—especially regarding the second coming of Jesus Christ. There is a deep irony in this: we readily believe in various coverups, doctrines, and worldly philosophies, yet we demand "evidence" when it comes to something as spiritual as Christ's return. For those who come to my blog, many of you already share a belief in His second coming, but it is essential to dive deeper into the spiritual truth behind it. We need to understand that the fight of Jesus and His Bride was a spiritual one—not a physical one.

Christ’s First Coming: Hidden, Yet Revealed

When Jesus Christ first came to Earth, He did so in humility and mystery. The world didn’t know who He really was. As John 1:10 says, "He was in the world, and though the world was made through Him, the world did not recognize Him." Jesus chose not to fully reveal His divine identity at first, even though He performed miracles and spoke of the Father. He allowed the people to believe He was merely the “Son of Man,” because His purpose was not to condemn the world but to save it (John 3:17).

But here’s the key: the Christ was revealed, even if not immediately. Jesus, the Almighty God Himself, came to show the way back to God. His life, death, resurrection and His 2nd coming were the ultimate revelation of His divine nature to a world who had not known Him.

The Spiritual Nature of the Second Coming

When we discuss the second coming, people often expect something physical, an undeniable proof that Jesus has returned. But Christ's second coming was spiritual in nature. The Revelation of Jesus Christ was not just a moment in history—it was a continual unveiling of His identity to those with spiritual eyes to see and ears to hear.

God is Spirit, and the work He does is spiritual. The battle they faced in the time of Christ was not a battle of flesh and blood (even though its manifestation was visible in the persecution) — it was a spiritual battle of faith. That’s why Paul says in Ephesians 6:12 that their struggle was "not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms."

Many people today follow false prophets, drawn to them because of their outward appearance or their claims to have some special knowledge. These are the ones who offer what appears to be “evidence” for a future 2nd coming of Christ, but we know that faith is not built on physical proof. Instead, it comes from believing something we cannot see with the carnal mind.

Faith Is the Evidence

For those seeking physical evidence of the second coming, we need to shift our focus. The evidence is not found in the material world, but in the spirit. Jesus said in John 4:23/4, " But the hour is coming, and now is, when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth. God is spirit, and His worshipers must worship in spirit and in truth." When we come to know God and understand who He truly is, the need for worldly evidence disappears.

The second coming of Christ is also called the Revelation of Jesus Christ for a reason (Revelation 1:1). It is a spiritual revelation that unfolds in the hearts of believers. Jesus said, "Blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed" (John 20:29). This is the kind of faith we are called to have—not one based on outward signs but one rooted deeply in the spiritual truth of our faith in God.

It’s easy to be swayed by every doctrine, every new teaching, or every person who claims to speak for God. But that is exactly why we need to cultivate spiritual discernment. As the Bible tells us in 1 John 4:1, "do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God." False prophets will come in many forms, but we must remain firm in our understanding of spiritual things which comes only through our faith in God.

The second coming of Christ is not about physical evidence, but spiritual revelation. God came into the world through Christ, hidden yet revealed, to save humanity from the bondage of sin and darkness. His return was spiritual but witnessed nevertheless (more on this in future posts), and we, as believers, must be steadfast in our faith in God.

Let us not be tossed back and forth by the waves of false doctrines or the demands for evidence in a world that often rejects the spiritual for the material. Instead, let us remain rooted in the truth that Jesus Christ is Lord God, and that through Him, we have access to eternal life..
