God married (Israel) so that He could divorce (cut off/destroy) His spiritual enemies. For His fight was always against His spiritual enemies, not flesh and blood.
In the 12 tribes of Israel (which has absolutely nothing to do with the 1948 created state called Israel) was the spiritual enemy manifested, when Israel was given the law and the word through the prophets, and then started to sin (whoring around, adultery with idols). Which made sin and death manifest.
So true to God's law, God divorced His adulterous wife, but it was the spiritual enemy who was the true whore that He cut off (and therefore destroyed).
That is why God didn't want anyone to perish and He came to the 12 tribes telling them to come out of that spiritual whore Babylon.
So that they wouldn't be going down with her.
The 12 tribes were used to destroy the enemies of God and to reconcile (marriage) the world to God. God married His new bride, holy... this time a bride that is holy....
