I often hear professing Christians say "Jesus is God and He was tempted!" others reply and say "God can not be tempted, that is why Jesus is not Most High God!"
When tempted, no one should say, “God is tempting me.” For God cannot be tempted by evil, nor does He tempt anyone.
Yet we see Jesus being tempted in the dessert:
Then Jesus was led up by the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted by the devil. 2 And when He had fasted forty days and forty nights, afterward He was hungry. 3 Now when the tempter came to Him, he said, “If You are the Son of God, command that these stones become bread.”
4 But He answered and said, “It is written, ‘Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God.’ ”
5 Then the devil took Him up into the holy city, set Him on the pinnacle of the temple, 6 and said to Him, “If You are the Son of God, throw Yourself down. For it is written:
‘He shall give His angels charge over you,’
and,
‘In their hands they shall bear you up,
Lest you dash your foot against a stone.’ ”
7 Jesus said to him, “It is written again, ‘You shall not tempt the Lord your God.’ ”
8 Again, the devil took Him up on an exceedingly high mountain, and showed Him all the kingdoms of the world and their glory. 9 And he said to Him, “All these things I will give You if You will fall down and worship me.”
10 Then Jesus said to him, “Away with you, Satan! For it is written, ‘You shall worship the Lord your God, and Him only you shall serve.’ ”
11 Then the devil left Him, and behold, angels came and ministered to Him. Matthew 4
Almighty God was indeed tempted by the devil, meaning, the devil tried to tempt Him, but what was God's response? Did He struggle? Did He doubt? Was He in any way tempted and shaken? No! Jesus rebuked satan straight away and put him in his place.
Jesus had indeed been tempted by satan, who thought he stood a chance! But Jesus did not feel (for lack of a better word) tempted and was therefore not tempted at all!
You may ask, how can I say that which such certainty when I wasn't there! Well, let us have a look at the scriptures. What do the scriptures tell us about who can feel tempted:
But each one is tempted when by his own evil desires he is lured away and enticed. James 1.14
Has Jesus got evil desires? Remember, evil desires come from our stony heart! Was He in any way evil or selfish? No! Jesus was our spotless Lamb! The Holy One of Israel born out into the world (Luke 1.35). If Jesus was in any way evil (the thought alone is enough to make me what to bite my tongue!) His sacrifice on the cross would have been in vain.
God searches our hearts, and although Jesus was holy in all His conduct, His heart was also holy and blameless -He had no evil selfish desires in Him and was therefore not able to sin.
but made Himself of no reputation, taking the form of a bondservant, and coming in the likeness of men. 8 And being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself and became obedient to the point of death, even the death of the cross. Philippians 2
He committed no sin, and no deceit was found in His mouth. 1 Peter 2:22
All human kind had sinned because our hearts were/are selfish. That is why we need/ed a change of heart (born again) as described in Ezekiel 36:
For I will take you from among the nations, gather you out of all countries, and bring you into your own land. 25 Then I will sprinkle clean water on you, and you shall be clean; I will cleanse you from all your filthiness and from all your idols. 26 I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit within you; I will take the heart of stone out of your flesh and give you a heart of flesh. 27 I will put My Spirit within you and cause you to walk in My statutes, and you will keep My judgments and do them.
And It was God Himself who made a way for us to receive the change of our stony heart for His own selfless heart.
You can only receive His heart/Spirit when you believe in the selfless act of His self sacrifice on the cross.
God Almighty sanctified Himself (Ezekiel 36.23, John 17.19) and came to earth (while still being in heaven at the same time John 3.13) and when He was on earth, He was veiled in a sinful flesh (Romans 8.3) but He Himself (Holy Spirit) knew no sin (2 Corinthians 5:21) and while in this flesh He emptied Himself of His godly might and was thereby humiliated, yes even to the point of death, a death He did not deserve.
God Almighty had no and has no selfish desires within Him, for all selfishness is of the devil.
For where jealousy and selfish ambition exist, there will be disorder and every evil practice. James3.16
and also in James 4.17:
Anyone, then, who knows the right thing to do, yet fails to do it, is guilty of sin.
Sin is to go after your selfish desires (who come from the stony heart) when you know you shouldn't.
God Almighty is Love, meaning, He does for others, He creates, He is selfless and in this perfect selflessness (a servant of all) He is the Greatest of all; in denying Himself He creates and gives life and is glorified forever and ever. Amen. He is the first because He is the last.
Many people may now say "If Jesus is God Almighty and He could not be tempted, what hope is there for me if only God can be sinless!? That's the whole point, my friend!
It is not you who stops sinning, but Christ in you! Christ in us is the hope of glory! He deserves all the glory. You can do nothing good without Him - DO NOT BE DECEIVED - It is Christ within you who will overcome your sin.
“With man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.” Matthew 19:26
You must be born again, so that Christ can dwell in you, exchange your stony heart with His heart, and reconcile you back to Him (the life giving Spirit) again. When you, the soul, and the Holy Spirit are one again, He will lead you into holiness and eternal life. And the council of peace shall be between you both....
“Behold, the Man whose name is the BRANCH!
From His place He shall branch out,
And He shall build the temple of the Lord;
13 Yes, He shall build the temple of the Lord.
He shall bear the glory,
And shall sit and rule on His throne;
So He shall be a priest on His throne,
And the counsel of peace shall be between them both.” Zechariah 6
